Using Ipod with car stereo aux input

My car stereo has a seperate dash mounted multi-cd/dvd player which has aux input jacks.
When you set the stereo mode to DVD, it automatically detects if theres any aux input, i.e my ipod, and plays it.
But if the gap between songs is too long, it swaps to the cd automatically for a second, then swaps back to the ipod when the next song starts.
Really irritating. If there is no cd in the box, it swaps to radio by default which means you then have to manually swap it back to DVD mode.
The stereo doesn\'t seem to have any way of configuring a longer delay in swapping, so does anybody know a way of eliminating gaps on the ipod.
The crossfade in itunes doesn\'t carry across to the ipod.

Which version of itunes are you running? and which generation of iPod do you have?

The iPod is a brand new (2 month old) 80GB.
iTunes is version 7.
I notice there\'s a new version 7.1 available. Does that have anything new that might help?

the newer itunes has a function called gapless playback, could be that your iPod hasn\'t been updated to feature this yet, its itunes that does this so try updating your itunes to the latest version and see if that helps :)

I have now upgraded itunes and my ipod to the latest versions.
Gapless playback is working but hasn\'t solved the problem.
If I play a live album or a \"pink floyd style\" album, it\'s fine, it moves from one song to another seamlessly.
The problem occurs when I play regular songs and they have a natural gap at the end, i.e a 2-3 second silence before the next song starts. The car stereo thinks there is no more aux input and switches.
I really need the cross fade in itunes to work on the ipod so I can eliminate those gaps.
I\'ve checked the Apple site and it says cross fade doesn\'t work on the ipod but does anybody know if they have any plans to get it working?

I haven\'t read anywhere about them including this function, if they were to it\'d probably be released on a new generation iPod...

Apple aren\'t very forthcoming on giving details of firmware upgrades to the players - although i have noticed itunes now automatically checks to see if your iPod is up to date

its fairly unusual for your stereo to switch back so suddenly... the iPod doesnt \"stop\" sending a signal, its simply a quiet part in the song. The gapless playback feature \'should\' stop the iPod from sending a zero output between songs.

does your stereo have an option to stop it auto defaulting back to the radio?
