Trouble with my iPod

Questions relating to the Apple iPod

My iPod mini keeps on turning itself on. Even when I've locked the keypad. Its soooooo anoying. Wenever I need to use it, the battery is allways zapped. It doesn't even play the sond I'd been listening to; it just randomly plays a track.

Can anyone help me out?
Has anyone had the same problem?

Many thanx

How long have you had this iPod for?

I've not heard of this fault myself, something similar though would be randomly turning off. Maybe there's a loose connection inside?

Try and fully test it in as many situations as possible - on hold in pocket/on desk/while charging etc.

If it's still within it's warranty I'd suggest sending it off to apple to have a look at it

Yeah, gotta agree with theweirdone on not coming across that particular instance before..

And the evil cat spirit in me also agrees with Elliot's humourous suggestion.. but hey, the cat is crazy :P

Usually, with iP*d's (and i guess the rest of the range, Nano's and Mini's included.. poss the Walkman phones too), the version of 'mysterious' power on or power off probs is the 'shuts itself down' from a lack of juice on the cell pack, which is (in the usual cases) a sure fire sign of a dying cell pack.

Amy ...

Since your prob is the reverse of the normal ones, may i politely ask.., are you absolutely certain that you are not, inadvertently or accidently, touching a control or knocking a button when walking (or whenever it happens) that's waking up the deck..??

I only ask this, since most of the Apple units never actually switch off, the 'power off' is literally just a kind of sleep mode that allows for almost instant power-up/use, hence why iP*d and others of the general series have fast startup times.

The downside to this 'quickstart' approach is, that if you so much as touch a control that will invoke the wakeup.., that's the time you discover just how sensitive the controls really are.

I've known kit to have controls that you could almost trigger by breathing on (so sensitive, was one item i worked with, that the residual vibrations of an Underground train x where i worked in Earls Court, could accidently vibrate the equipment and it's wakeup button would move and wake up the device - not a cool situation, when it's a vital bit of test kit that you literally want to sleep when it's not in use as replacement/subsitute power was not easy to come by).

I'm not so familar with the Mini, so i'm guessing based on experience of similar stuff, as you may guess...

Hey, Apple fans..., if you have had this prob.., stick a virtual paw in the air to help Amy realise she's not going mad :D

Good luck.., will write back if i discover what may be the real prob here...

Be Cool Always - and keep on Rocking Peoples Socks eh.. :P :D

Since she actually mentions that it does it on hold as well, I'm not sure if that would do it. UNLESS the hold button isn't working properly.
I know the backlight comes on when on hold and a button is pressed (note: this doesn't ALWAYS happen, seems to be picky) But this shouldn't be enough to drain the battery to death.

g'darn iPodness.

I did have one guy come in with an iRiver h10 20GB claiming that the battery life was dodgy and it kept skipping. He took it jogging and never put it on hold, nuff said, player was fine.

I'm sure this isn't the case here though, does sound like a dodgy connection if it's drained even when on hold.
