Sonos or Squeezbox

Hi there,

I'm going to set up a wireless audio system in my house and I can't decide whether to go with Sonos or Squeezebox.

While the Sonos looks really amazing, it is more expensive. I'm just wondering if anyone can give me some advice or let me know the benefits of either system?

Well i have the Sonos - its just simply superb.

Last FM, the entire Napster catalogue (6.5m tracks at your finger tips!)- what more could you want? (try one ;))

Its easy to set up, Zone, and I can even use my iphone (or touch) to control it. Sync the zones for parties!

Liked it so much we've now dumped our DAB and replaced it with a ZP90 running Connected Accoustic P1's - sweet system.

Squeezebox is better if you want to use your own music library all the time, but you can do that with the Sonos also.

The Sonos is like going to Gold x Cinema, hagen das icecream, driving a supercar and staying at a 5* hotel all rolled into one, once you try it / have it you won't want any of the cheaper alternatives. Its also a bit of an addiction as soon as you have one you can come up with very good reasons to NEED a sound system in your bathroom, kitchen and garden shed.

I have a Sonos system, 5 zones now & also subscribe to Napster which I think is great. Wanted a new Sonos controller but looking at the itouch - is it right what I'm reading, you can use it with Napster???

Ok, it is expensive, especially if you want a controller in every room. This is the only minus point. Everything about the product is quality. The touch controller is just superb. It is well made and just extrudes a quality feel. The system 'meshes' so for a large house, providing each Sonos player can see at least one other it will work. The same is true for the Sonos controller, which talks to a Sonos player, not your wireless router. If using an ipod as a controller, it communicates via your wireless router, so it must be in range. A point to bear in mind. The Sonos players also have two ethernet RJ45 connections, so you can plug in a pc, thus extending your wireless network.

last.fm napster and Deezer can be run on a pc of course, but running them over the Sonos can be far more convienient and you will have endless hours of fun searching for long forgotten songs.

Paying £5 per month to Napster will allow you to listen to almost any song or complete album ever recorded and you also get 5 free MP3s per month. Well worth the money. In fact since getting my Sonos I have not purchased a new cd.

If you are really naughty, there is a way to record the streamed audio from Napster, BBC I-Player and the like. Not going to tell you how though :P I do this to record BBC7 stuff, transfer to a MP3 player to listen in the car.

I have a Buffalo Linkstation Pro Duo NAS for my cd collection (running raid 1, so I never have to load my huge cd collection into the computer ever again) and Sonos accesses this no problem and means the computer does not have to be on to listen to the music collection.

If you love music and an afford it, get a Sonos system, you will never regret it.
