I suspect my current MP3 player may be on the way out due to a number of knocks, so I'm considering my alternatives.
I've been looking around for the last couple of weeks, but so far I've not really found anything suitable.
In the past I've always had HDD based players for the capactity (iRiver H140 then Toshiba Gigabeat F40, both using Rockbox), and I think it's the move away from these to flash based players which is causing me problems.
Basically I have a couple of essential requirements:
* At least 40Gb storage - either as supplied or with SD expansion slot or similar
* Ability to play both MP3 and OGG Vorbis audio
* Ability to handle at least 10K audio files
* Decent sound quality
* Show up as an external drive in windows so I can drag and drop files
So far the closest I've found was the Cowon D2+ (which you currently have on offer) with a 32Gb SD card. I initially thought fit the bill perfectly, but I've since noticed that there is a 4000 file limit. From some browsing on various forums, it appears that it may be 4K internal + 4K external memory, but 8000 files still isn't quite enough for my needs. There appears to be a Rockbox port in development, which would probably solve this issue, but it looks to be a way from being stable at the moment.
Other than that the only other options I can see would be to go for something like the Cowon 02, or Archos 5 Android.
I'm not 100% sure if either of these would fit the bill - I don't know if anyone can comment? Also I'm a bit concerned that a multifunctional device may not function as well as a standalone audio player (which is primarily what it would be used for)
Can anyone suggest any other alternatives which would fit the bill, or anything on the horizon?
