The £60 discount is good but only if i could take my x5 with me. I love the X5 and a it would nice that cowon make a rebate to all x5 owners. At least they have to put the same price that in america.

Gapless is a requirement if you have albums that are, er, gapless (so no pauses between tracks, just a continuous sound). Like nearly all Pink Floyd and Genesis, and most dance compilations. With a player that doesn't do gapless you get sudden silences in the music once every few minutes. To turn the feature off would be like me turning on random pauses in the middle of your music. Just don't understand why you would want that!
Of course, if you don't have continuous sound albums, then you have no need for it. And I think some people get confused, and think "gapless" means the player will get normal tracks with gaps between them and fade them together. NOT what we are talking about!
I know the "fix" is to encode the whole album as one track, but then you can't skip between tracks. Again not ideal.
Your point about SQ is good - I have found the X5 to be excellent, and no Apple product I have tried (with my UM2s) sounds nearly as good, and none play my library of FLAC. So paying good money to replace a player that then introduces unwanted gaps into my music to me, at least, seems like a duff idea.
From the result of this poll, it should become clear to Cowon that they f**** up since the X5... How many of us did wait for a true X5 replacement? The legend of the X7 did live for a while though...
Needless to say, I would never give away my X5. The D2 I bought later turned out to be a downer: - the sound quality dropped. Very harsh highs, depressing... - no real effort on the firmware side (although the current alpha build of rockbox allows gapless) - THE USE OF PLASTIC, which continues with the S9... When will Cowon understand that 'Premium' also includes casing and build quality... Almost all the S9 review pointed the 'cheap' allure of the player... Meanwhile Samsung, Apple and Microsoft continue delivering aluminium player, which 'feel' premium... I cannot describe how disappointed I was when I first took the D2 in my hand...
If you give me a rebate to replace my D2, why not... But the X5? Get something worthy out first...
I own an X5L 30 gb . Could anyone tel me why Cowon are thinking of this promotion ? Is it to sell more D2s or because they want old X5/ X5L units back to refurbish them ?? . Anyway , I certainly wouldn't sell for that price . I'm seriously thinking of getting a D2 Dab 16 gb ..or even an S9 , so I may sell my X5l privately . Can anyone tell me what I should ask for it . It's mint , great batt life left , and sings as sweet as ever ?? ( and while I'm here , I've been hunting forever for a docking station ..not X5 size but X5L ...any ideas anyone ? ) . I know the X5 series is probably the best sounding DMPs ever built , it's the Dab that's tempting me .
Given that the deal applies irrespective of the condition of your X5 (The X5 does not even have to be in working condition!) means that those whose players are not mint or that have started experiencing problems or are not in working condition are getting a decent deal.
However If it's not broke, why fix it. If you have had your player this long then clearly you are happy with what you have - but if you are considering changing then it is a good deal.
Personally I have started having a number of issues with my X5L, and while it is still a brilliant sounding player (better than any other I have heard) my user experience is becoming tainted by persistent faults. I have a new battery and replacement joystick, the USB host is screwed meaning I cannot use WMP to sync and also playlists are no longer being recognised (I have tried various versions of the firmware to try and cure this) so it may be time to put mine to sleep - and maybe take advantage of the offer.
If yours is in good working order then keep it. It doesn't appear that there's anything better out there!
