Playlists on NWZ-E436

Must be a dumb question but I can't get playlists working on this nice little Sony player.
I create a playlist in Media Player 11 or I create them by hand.
Seems ok, and I use Sync in Media Player to transfer it or I drag across and it doesn't quite do it.
I've tried modifying by hand and I'm not getting it.
Can anyone give me the simple pointer for the file type (x it likes .WPL file format which is okay to do manually) and where it needs to go on the device and any naming restrctions, etc. please?

Does the playlist file just not appear on the player at all? Or do they appear but not work? Or is there an error when transferring it across?

Besides the Media Player 11,cant you use any programs specific for your Sony to transfer and arrange the files? Have you used other music players such as Real player, etc? Are these compatible with your Sony?

I'm also having problems getting the playlists to appear the way I want them (getting unwanted characters out of titles, changing artist names, moving files to different folders). I've tried doing them from explorer and WMP 11, but many of the revisions just don't seem to take.

Don't know if there's any solution, but I'll listen to any hints anyone may have.

Hmmm, not too sure on this one. You could try both transferring the playlists at the same time as the music files, and also trying transferring them after the music is on.

Bit of a lame suggestion, but I'm not sure on this one.

Is all the tag data continuous? i.e. Is it complete for every track?
