Need help connecting Mintpad to Wi-Fi

Postby Faith Darkholme »

Hi!

I recently purchased a Mintpad PMP and I'm unable to connect it to my Wi-Fi network.

When I go to Wi-Fi connection it says "connecting to network" but then it says "network not found".

It shows a list of the available networks and it shows mine. I enter the configuration of my network, I enter all the data it asks for (Security Key, DHCP On, since it's on in my router) I touch the Con button and it shows again a message telling me "connecting to the network" then a second message "updating available networks" then nothing, just shows the list again but never connects.

Wi-Fi is working perfectly in my two notebooks, so it's not a problem related to the network.

I'm using the protocol WPA TKIP, I don't know if that is a problem...

I have disconnected MAC filtering in case that was the problem with no luck.

I really don't know what to do.

I little help will be much appreciated.

Re: Need help connecting Mintpad to Wi-Fi

I've been able to connect it to my Wi-Fi network.

The problem was the Security Code it's not the one for my connection but one that comes in the Mintpad itself, in the place for the batteries...

Now it shows as connected but I still can't navigate with it.

When I try to open the Mintweb Browser it says "Unable to connect to server. Please check your internet connection", my connection is working fine.

If I try with IE it doesn't display any pages and says "Cannot find server or DNS Error"

What should I do?

Thank you for your replies!

I went to the router's Security Log and saw this:

10/29/2009 02:54:29 Sta 00-30-0D-32-5D-AB WPA/WPA2 PSK authentication failed

That's the Mintpad's MAC address, so it's trying to access the network.

I went to my router's configuration and authorized the Mintpad's MAC address but still can't connect.

How I give it full access to my network?

'WPA/WPA2 PSK authentication failed' Would show that the WPA x entered on the MintPad is not correct.

It may be wise for the purposes of testing, to change the WiFi protocol - e.g. briefly setting your Router to WEP with a simple x to see if it then allows the MintPad to connect.

Other things to check, ensure your router has DHCP enabled, and the MAC Address for the MintPad is entered in any allow list. To ensure no port blocking you could also add the MintPad connection as DMZ on the router.

The problem is there's no place in the Mintpad to enter the WPA x.

The place where I thought I should have entered the x (they call it Security Code) was for another different code that I found in the Mintpad itself, on a sticker, inside the place for the batteries...

When I tried to enter my x (several times) it always said "wrong code".

Until I entered that code from the sticker I wasn't able to even make it connect to wi-fi.

The DHCP is enabled in both Mintpad and router, and the MAC address is already allowed.

I don't know how to do a DMZ with the Mintpad since it doesn't have IP.

This is driving me crazy! :(

I went to a place with open and free networks here in my city today.

Again it shows all the available wi-fi connections, it shows as connected but I can't navigate.

It keeps giving me the same DNS/ Server error.

By the way, I contacted the Mintpad customer service, at first they where very nice and helpful but when I told them that I bought the Mintpad here (they asked) they stopped all communication with me.
