Ipod probs - PLEASE help.

Hi,
Please help with following if at all possible. Thanks in advance!

My newish (2 month old Ipod) has 2 apparent problems.

1: Batery life is awful. I seem to be charging it daily (via the usb cable and my PC)...after I disconnect it from Itunes of course - what a time consuming exercise). Anything I need to know?
I had an IRiver which broke after 2 years but the batery life would do me for a week.

2: Last night my Ipod began simply skipping through entire albums.
By this I mean, it all moves through the menus alot slower than it did before, but when I reach the desired album, it doesnt play, it just displays each song, one after the other and then returns to menu.
Some albums play, and others don't.

Something wrong with the centre button or have I missed something more simple than that?

Incidentaly perhaps, the display changed last night - from the moving bar at the bottom of the song to a bunch of dots (and some with stars).

Not happy - love your advice if any.

Hi there,

The first thing I would recommend doing would be downloading and running iPod Updater, which will update your iPod's current firmware and generally make it run smoother.

1.With battery life - a good solid 4 hour charge is required to give it full battery charge. Apple claim you can get up to 20 hours from a full charge (with music). The battery life is reduced dramatically though if you have the screen display on for a sustained length of time - change this in 'settings'->'backlight timer'->'off'. Also, if you are watching video or viewing photos the battery life will drop to around 2 hours, as the backlight and video (in particular) consumes a lot of the battery.

2. I'm not too sure about this - perhaps you should check that the music that won't play is in your iTunes music library and will play properly on the computer - perhaps they have been encoded incorrectly so the iPod cannot play them, or they have not synched correctly with your iPod? Worth checking anyway. If they have been synched properly, hopefully they should play after downloading the firmware updater (iPod Updater).

With the slider bar at the bottom of the screen, pressing the centre select button will change it from volume control, to track skipper, and then to star rating and then back again with each press of the button.

I've just been reading the above hints and how good they are!
I've just bought my 1st iPod yesterday, installed iTunes and, not quite knowing how the software works, opened my library, click the wanted albums and lo and behold, the albums tranferred straight away. Mind you I did click on 'update (my name)files' in the Files drop down menu, but as I've said, I wasn't sure how to do it. The tracks transferred very speedily.

I can not get over on how something so small can hold so much!! I'm still trying to get to grips with it's menu system but that's plain use.
I'm also waiting to see just how long the battery life is, but so far so good :rolleyes:
