Hello, I am trying to figure out which travel speaker would be the best to buy - without having to sell an eye for (spanish saying) . I have boiled the choices down to the Altec Lansing ant the X-Mini II speaker. I need something for the use while I work in the tropics of South America, so it should be one which is portable and does not get ruined in a back-pack full of gear (the Altec seems to have a better portable case than the X-mini II). I have had the chance to listen to the X-mini II and its sounds is really good, incredibly loud. So I think this would be able to compete with the usual sounds which acompany the jungle (cicadas, frogs, wind, rain) at camp. However, as far as I can estimate right now, the Altec has the "advantage" of needing batteries, and in the jungle we do not have computers along with us, to re-charge rechargable devices. So we are dependant on batteries. Also the Altec seems to have a sturdier build which could also protect it more from the high humidity, sweaty hands and things as fine dust. But what about the sound quality of the Altec? Does it compete with the X-Mini? Please let me know your experience on these two devices in comparison! I would be very grateful!
The Orbit isn't as loud as the Xmini II speakers but the overall sound quality is very good. Moreover, it is a bit sturdier and not having to recharge the battery is going to be a x bonus for you.

Thanks, this really helps! It still seems like the x-mini has the better quality due to its powerful sound. Do you happen to know if there is a hard case out there for the x-mini? :)
No hard case for the X-Mini unfortunately. Obviously you'd have to be much more careful with these speakers as they'll be succeptable to damage from drops and moisture. However, if you found your own waterproof/hard case which would fit then they would still be worth considering.
