A5's - Left speaker doesn't work

Just received my audio engine A5's - on setting up as per the guide the right (unpowered) speaker works fine, yet the left (powered) speaker does not function. There is power going to the speakers (as the blue light is illuminated), and the feed is there (hence the right speaker working), what is the problem?

I am in Germany, is the small difference in voltage going to be a factor? If so why do all of my other electronic appliances (mac book pro etc) still funtion?

Any reply would be greatly appreciated!

Please check that the balance on the input signal is not entirely on the right. What are you using as an input device?

Initially I used my macbook pro, then tried it with my ipod. I am going to have a real good look at it now, re-wire and re-test. Do you have any other advice?

Right, tried taking out the speaker wires to no avail.

Here's what I see.

1) There is power going to the speakers, the blue light is on.
2) The input is kosher as music comes from the right speaker
3) It can't be a fault with the wires (see above)
4) The fuse is intact (visually verified)

What is odd is that there is absolutely no sign of damage, they look pristine. When I took them out of the packaging they looked completely unopened. This is just odd, what could it be? Should I take off the back panel?

I know I should send them back, but I'd love to find a quick fix. It will be really quite expensive to ship them back, especially from Germany.
